Bridgit Mendler Q&A With Shine On Media About The Secret World of Arrietty (@bridgitmendler)

Shine On Media had the chance to chat with Bridgit at a press junket earlier this month to chat all about the movie, her song “Summertime,” and even her future music plans.

How challenging was it to step into a project where all the animation, the mouth movements and story were already done?
Bridgit: They wrote the script in mind with the idea of us having to say the words in English matching up to the lengths in speech that was in the movie. A lot of that was already in mind but it was up to us as actors to match the inflect and expression of how you see the characters move their mouths. Sometimes they’d make slight alterations to that but it was just an interesting process. I enjoyed it because not often do you have to fit your words to something that has already been said.

Did you know you’d be doing a song for the movie going into it?
B: I didn’t know I was going to be doing a song at first. They did talk to me about it during the recording process and I wrote a song before the movie, then they wound up using that song. I think it’s a nice fit and hopefully it will be on iTunes. I don’t think it’s going to be on my album. I kind of like to keep my music and acting worlds separate except for those projects where I contribute a little bit of music to an acting thing. I was really happy they wanted me to do music for the movie.

What is it that makes Disney so magical and special as an actor?
B: They really have a commitment to making quality programs and a commitment to having their kids that are part of the show be able to express themselves in whatever positive way they want to. For me, music has kind of been a big thing so they’ve been able to help me with that. I have a strong connection with Friends for Change and so they’ve allowed me to incorporate myself into that as well. I think they really want their kids to follow their dreams and encourage other kids to do the same.

You’ve worked with David Henrie before on Wizards of Waverly Place. Did you get to work with him while recording for “Secret World of Arrietty”?
B: It was all recorded separately. Every one.

Is it more challenging to do a voice over project than a live-action?
B: I’ve enjoyed doing animation for a long time, it’s one of the first things I did when I started in the entertainment industry at age 11. I feel like it’s something I can connect to and it’s something that requires a lot of imagination but at the same time you don’t have to get dressed up, you don’t have to go to a set. It moves really quickly. I did the whole movie in 3 days. In that sense, it doesn’t require as much work, but it requires a lot more work of the mind, which I actually enjoy.

The Borrowers as characters are really ingenious in how they take human products and adapt it for their world. Was there something you were particularly impressed by with how they lived, etc?
B: I thought it was cool how they used water, actually. They made it so that a droplet of water would fill a little basin and their little basin is like a pistachio shell. That was enough for them and it was just interesting, I thought, that they didn’t make the rain drops especially small, they made them the size that they would be for you and me. Through doing that, you got to see how physics effected the borrowers and how the natural world was just completely different for them.

What was the inspiration for “Summertime” and what’s next with your music apart from acting?
B: I think my thing is that I kind of like the idea of my music identity being separate than any acting character I work on. I’ve had it overlap in a few roles but I don’t see that as being my own music, I see that as being the character’s music. That’s why I like the separation between those two.

For this particular project, though, I had already written the song and they just thought it was a nice song, so they wanted to use it for the movie. I think it’s so great to be able to put a song into a particular project and I’ve done it with a few movies now. You’re really trying to shape that sound to match the sound of the project and with this song, the song was already written, but it hadn’t been produced. It was interesting because the production was really a big tool making the song match up with the movie.

When did you see the original Japanese version of “The Secret World of Arrietty” and did you think about that version when recording for the English version when regarding tone, etc?
B: I saw it before I even signed on for this project. They’d play [the Japanese version] for me before I would do takes so I could hear the inflection and sometimes they would tell me what the character was actually saying word for word because I think that makes a difference. Each language has a different meaning behind what they say and sometimes it’s hard to completely translate it exactly. I thought that it was really neat to do my own version of that in English.

The movie is about an unforgettable summer experience. What was your unforgettable summer experience?
B: I feel like my summer experiences were kind of similar to Arrietty’s in that I was really into exploring the natural world and I loved climbing trees and rocks. There was this island that my family would visit in Maine and we’d just climb around the whole island and it was all about exploring nature and becoming acquainted with that part of life.

What can we expect from your upcoming album?
B: I think you can expect…it definitely has the pop base to it but I think it’s going to be kind of funky and a little soulful. I enjoyed experimenting throughout the album. I wrote on all the songs. There were definitely collaborations with other people in terms of helping come up with how the song is going to go but I was there for all of it.

What are you looking forward to exploring with Teddy on “Good Luck Charlie” in the third season and will she being going to college any time soon?
B: I think at this point she’s 17, so she’s nearing college age. I think she has one more year of high school but college is on the horizon. She has a new sibling now and so I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of other crazy things coming up.

Bella Thorne And Pia Mia Talk With Tommy2.net (@bellathorne @princesspiamia)

Bella Thorne And Pia Mia talked with tommy2.net. Take a peek at the interview below!

Tommy2: How’s it going it’s Tommy2 and today we’re being joined by Pia Mia and Bella Thorne. So what are you two up today?

Bella Thorne: Well we were just at the doctor’s office, you know just check up, blood pressure all that fun stuff.

Tommy2: Staying healthy, right?

Bella Thorne: Yeah, staying healthy.

Tommy2: Okay, now back in June of 2010, I got an email asking if I’d be interested in interviewing a drop dead gorgeous 12 year old named Bella Thorne. We talked and you were just learning some of the dances for Shake it Up. Bella does that feel to you like it’s been two years since that?

Bella Thorne: You know it actually… it doesn’t. To be honest, I’m so shocked that we’re going to be going into our third season pretty soon. It’s definitely a wonderful experience and I’ve had so much fun doing this show and I’ve learned so much and I’ve become a really hard working person and I appreciate that, especially for myself. And you know I’ve been through a lot of stuff and all the cast members of Shake It Up they’re like my family and I don’t have a lot, so they are my family I could say. And it’s kind of just… I’m really thankful and humbled by the fans, they’ve stayed with the show and they like it and they want to watch it and we make them laugh. And you know to make them smile is why we do it, so, it’s mesmerizing.

Tommy2: Now after the interview, I started following you on Twitter and couldn’t help but notice Pia since you’re tweets mentioned her quite a bit. Pia why don’t you talk about your friendship with Bella and how far that goes back.

Pia Mia: Well we’ve know each other for about two years. We met at dance class

Bella Thorne: Right before I started Shake It Up.

Pia Mia: Yeah, it was right before she got Shake It Up. And they were playing this music that we could like stretch out or like do our freestyle or whatever just to warm up. And I saw Bella and she was just like breaking it out in the middle of the floor, I was like… I like this girl! She was so good, she was so awesome and has like a million things to do for freestyle. I was really, really shocked actually. I didn’t know that you could do that many things in freestyle and I’m so happy that I was here to see Bella before she got Shake It Up, and just to watch her grow through the whole show.

Tommy2: So Bella, not only did Shake It Up bring you some success, but it brought you a new friend.

Bella Thorne: Oh yeah, my best friend.

Tommy2: Okay, now lets get down to business here. I’ve got some fun short questions for each of you… but to mix things up here a little, we’re going to have Pia – you’re going to answer Bella’s questions, and Bella – you’ll take Pia’s. And then after it we can find out who’s right.

Bella Thorne: Okay.

Pia Mia: Okay.

Tommy2: Now one place I know the two of you like is Disneyland. So Bella, what’ is Pia’s favorite ride?

Bella Thorne: She likes Splash Mountain, we both like the mountain rides.

Tommy2: Okay. And the other?

Pia Mia: Bella’s favorite ride is Space Mountain, and I’m really scared of that ride.

Tommy2: And on the topic of Disney. Who is each others favorite princess? Bella who’s Pia’s?

Bella Thorne: I think it’s Cinderella.

Pia Mia: Bella’s favorite Disney character is Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Tommy2: Now if you guys could go see any concert right now. Who would it be? Bella who would Pia want to go see?

Bella Thorne: Chris Brown for Pia.

Pia Mia: Bella’s would be Drake.

Tommy2: Okay, lastly here, how about a fashion accessory? What’s the one thing the other one wants to have?

Pia Mia: Bella’s is shoes.

Bella Thorne: Pia’s is rings. She loves rings, and she loves one ring in general that my brother gave her for a promise ring and they’re all promisey with each other, so that’s cute.

Tommy2: Now last year, the two of you got together to record a song Bubblegum Boy. When did that exactly happen, and was that something that you guys had been planning for awhile?

Bella Thorne: Well Pia had already, she already recorded it and she showed it to me and I was like wow Pia, that’s a really great song. You know, you do a great job on it and then she was like why don’t you come in and you do some verses with me. And so, that’s basically how we did it. We wanted to do a song together for quite sometime, she’s my best friend and she’s got an amazing voice. So, I kind of like used to work with Pia in that sense. So, that’s basically how we got to do Bubblegum Boy.

Tommy2: And who worked on that song? Like who was the producer for that and stuff?

Pia Mia: Umm, Babyface. We recorded it… with Babyface under FaceTone and with Toni Dixon and Khristopher Riddick-Tynes and Alvin Isaacs. So, they all were there…

Bella Thorne: and watching us, staring us down.

Pia Mia: Right… and just getting to record songs with your best friend makes everything. Doing anything with your best friend makes is all that much better. So it was a lot of fun.

Tommy2: And that can be somewhat of a stressful situation – true. So that’s probably nice.

Bella Thorne: oh yeah, it’s so much better knowing that you have someone to fall back on.

Zendaya Featured In The Spring 2012 Issue of Glitter Magazine (@Zendaya96)

Check out Zendaya’s exclusive interview in the Spring 2012 Issue of Glitter Magazine. Zendaya discusses her style, future ambitions, her hidden talent and more!

Glitter: Describe the process for creating the “CeCe and Rocky” fashion line for D-Signed (at Target). What inspired your designs?
Zendaya: My character Rocky loves fashion and when our designer Jessica created the vision for Rocky, she went with a girly look, but with a little bit of edge to it.

Glitter: What inspires your personal style?
Zendaya: I am inspired by so many things. I can get an idea from a magazine, a person or even nature. I like to mix it up and sometimes go glam or sometimes go more edgy…it kind of depends on how I feel at the moment.

Glitter: What are your favorite ways to “Swag it out?”
Zendaya: For me, everyone has his or her own personal swag. It’s more of an attitude that we all have, sometimes it just needs to be brought out.

Glitter: What was it like voicing “Fern” in Disney’s Pixie Hollow Games?
Zendaya: It was a whole new experience for me. I am used to being very physical on Shake It Up but when you are just doing the voice, you have to really concentrate on conveying your message with only your voice and it can be challenging…but I really loved it!

Glitter: Do you relate to your character on Shake It Up?
Zendaya: Yes, Rocky and I are so much alike. I used to be kind of shy like her and I am still very into school like she is. We both are vegetarians too!

Glitter: Shake It Up has a considerable and enthusiastic fan base. What has been your most memorable moment with a fan?
Zendaya: Well, there have been many and our fans are simply incredible. But there was one in particular that really stands out and that’s the first time I was recognized…I was getting frozen yogurt with my mom and a little girl came up to me and said are you the girl on that new show (the show hadn’t even premiered yet, just promotions on the channel) and I said yes…she asked for my picture but then I was like, an I get your picture? ‘Cause you are the first person to recognize me!

Glitter: What is the biggest compliment you’ve received in your career?
Zendaya: I think when people tell me that I am down to earth and humble, I feel really good about that…I don’t want to be considered anything other than that!

Glitter: What would you like to be doing in 5 years?
Zendaya: There are so many things I want to do. I really want to act in a feature film, put out an album, go on tour, design clothes, write a book, walk the runway…basically everything!

Vanessa Hudgens Talks About Dating & Gives Boys Advice On How To Approach Women (@VanessaHudgens)

In a recent interview for promotion of her new film Journey 2, Vanessa Hudgens talks about dating, how boys can approah women, and her most challenging scenes in the movie. Check out the interview!

“Dating in general is tough,” revealed the lovely 23-year-old Fil-Am actress Vanessa Hudgens when we interviewed her. “It’s about finding someone with whom you have the same beliefs with and if you have that and communication, I think it is the key,” she added.

“When you have a connection with someone, you have an instant connection. I feel like I have been more aware of the connections that I have been making with people. If I do have that genuine true connection, you acknowledge that and you value it. You treasure it because there is a lot of people who you meet who there is a wall where it just feels wrong. So I think it is genuinely about just following my heart. That is what I have been doing. It has taken me in a very beautiful direction.”

Blooming in a white halter long dress by Rebecca Taylor with a flower on her hair, the charming actress is poised and confident.

Vanessa, whose parents are Filipina Gina Guangco and firefighter Gregory Hudgens, has indeed gone a long way from her “High School Musical” days where she portrayed the sweet Gabrielle Montez.

Of her Filipino roots and ethnic background, Vanessa revealed, “Yeah, I am half-Filipino, half Caucasian. But within that Chinese-Spanish-French-American-Indian-Irish. I am a mutt basically. It used to be tough. I used to get really frustrated because I would go out for parts and I was never Hispanic enough or never Caucasian enough. It was really aggravating. But I feel like now that I have more of a name for myself, people are more aware. I have the opportunity to really transform myself. I have been called a chameleon since I was young so I love completely changing my look and because of all my different ethnicities, I feel like I really take on different forms.”

Asked to give boys some advice on how to approach women, Vanessa said, “Be themselves. You really have to be yourself. It’s when people are trying to be something they are not that it comes off phony and that’s not attractive. Spontaneity. You have to be open to new experiences. That is really attractive. You have to be very passionate. And you have to be kind of spiritual, in touch with yourself and being centered.”

The charming girl who was born in Salinas, California, who most recently starred in Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch” and in “Beastly,” a modern-day take on “Beauty and the Beast,” is recently appearing in Brad Peyton’s new 3D adventure film, “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” a sequel to “Journey to the Center of the Earth.”

In the movie that also stars Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson and Luis Guzman, Vanessa portrays Kailani, the daughter of Gabato (Luis), a father-daughter tour guide team. They help 17-year-old Sean Anderson (Josh) and his new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne), look for Sean’s grandfather Alexander (Michael) who is lost in a mysterious island.

Vanessa revealed to us her most challenging scene in doing the movie: “Shooting the underwater sequences was tough because I don’t do well in water. A lot of people feel really comfortable but I do not. I do not like being underwater. I hate getting my face wet so it was difficult for me but it was such an incredible experience looking over and seeing Michael Caine underwater acting with me. It was such an odd experience. I do not know how many people can say they have done that. It was so cool.”

She added that she and co-star Josh, who was a former boyfriend, actually asked Michael if he could adopt them. “Josh and I actually asked Michael if he would adopt us as his grandchildren because he is so cool,” she chirpily disclosed. “He has done so many incredible things. He is a legend. He is a Knight but he is just so hip like he is in the know. He knows what’s up in the pop culture. He knows all the electronics that are out and happening and he is just such a good guy. I truly adore him.”

She revealed that when not filming, she finds to relax and put her hair down when “I am sitting on the beach and doing yoga. I also love music. I do completely allow myself to get lost in music so I guess that would be my real release. That’s when I really let myself loose.”

Vanessa admitted that she used to make music too. “I have not really been making music recently,” she pointed out. “I have been focusing on film and a lot of heavier dramas but I love listening to music. I love listening to music all day and all night. A bunch of my friends are musicians so it is always in my life.”

She shared that her upcoming projects include the Ron Krauss drama, “Gimme Shelter,” Scott Walker’s thriller, “The Frozen Ground,” with Nicolas Cage and John Cusack, and the crime drama, “Spring Breakers.”

Vanessa admitted that she is adventurous. “I am very adventurous,” she said. “I love a good adventure. I love camping. I love hiking. I love just being outside.”

Asked if she ever gave her parents something to complain about, Vanessa said, “Only when I do not take my vitamins.”

So how does she see herself 10 years from now, we asked. “Hopefully with an Oscar or maybe a Golden Globe. I don’t know. I have never really been one to plan ahead. I just try to stay as present and do my best in the moment that I have now. I want to travel so hopefully, see a bit more of the world, continue to expand my horizons, play different characters, do different genres and just keep on pushing myself.”

Full Fanlala Interview With Bella Thorne & Pia Mia (@bellathorne @princesspiamia)

Check out Bella Thorne and Pia Mia’s full interview with Fanlala! Bella talks about her favorite Disney memories and her favorite type of gum.

Fanlala: Bella, You credit Texas Instruments as the big break for your career. What did the company have you do?

Bella Thorne: It was a commercial, ten commercials, and I had to do two sets of them. One of them was shot all in Canada. There was an elephant named George on the set, he was really cute. Everyone thinks that he was green screened, but he wasn’t! It was definitely different. It was hard to fill my lines, because it was hard to get George to look at the camera!

F: Pia, if you could choose one onscreen project for you and Bella to work on, what would you two want to do?

Pia Mia: A music video would definitely be a lot of fun. Fans have been asking for a video for ‘Bubblegum Boy,’ so we’ve wanted to do something like that.

F: Your song ‘Bubblegum Boy’ is a huge hit, both online and on Radio Disney. A question for you both – what is your favorite flavor of bubble gum, or candy in general?

BT: Dubble Bubble is my favorite gum. I love chewing the kind that you can blow really big bubbles with. The normal kind gives me headaches, so I prefer watermelon flavored gum!

PM: Definitely the regular gum flavor, and my favorite candy is Twix! Ooooh! And Milky Ways. They give them to me on set all the time!

F: Bella, we know you spend a lot of time on both coasts. Either LA or New York. What would you say are the best parts of both cities?

BT: In New York it’s the honesty of people. If they don’t like you out there, they’ll tell you straight up. I just love New York, walking down the streets is really fun. You can get two-dollar hot dogs, and the fashion out there is exquisite. And LA is just clean – all my friends are here. I’ve got Pia and Zendaya!

F: Do the two of you have any Disney memories from when you grew up together?

BT: When I was growing up, my sister’s room was Disney themed. I was looking at pictures when I was younger, and I look like an unhappy baby, but I have had wonderful Disney experiences, and I’m named after Belle from ‘Beauty and the Beast!’

PM: My Disney memory was Cinderella from third grade. I tried out for Cinderella with a bunch of other people in my class and I got the part of Cinderella. It’s that part that got me started in singing!
